Inspection of the cargo (bulk, break-bulk or general cargo) at shipper’s premises and/or hold or compartment where the cargo will be stowed for shipment.

Usually the intention of the survey is to make sure that the condition and specification of the cargo on loading is as specified in the contract or invoice of sale, and that due care and attention has been taken in preparing the compartment for the cargo. Sampling of the cargo, checking the packaging, stowage and lashing surveys.
